What is a HireVue Interview? Your Guide to the Virtual Interviewing Platform

HireVue is an online digital interviewing platform that allows employers to conduct virtual interviews with candidates.  It’s main use is in mass recruitment. It’s often used by large organisations to filter through thousands of applicants for Intern or Graduate roles, however some  organisations use it to hire for experienced roles.

So, what exactly is a HireVue interview?

A HireVue interview is a pre-recorded or live video interview that candidates complete using the HireVue platform. During the interview, candidates are typically asked a series of behavioral or situational questions and are given a set amount of time to respond to each question.

The HireVue platform uses advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to convert speech to text and then compare the answers against a database of answers given by previous successful candidates. This analysis helps recruiters and hiring managers to evaluate the candidate’s communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and overall suitability for the job.

Why do companies use HireVue?

Companies use HireVue for several reasons. First and foremost, it allows them to reach a wider pool of candidates, regardless of their geographical location. This is especially useful for companies that have multiple offices or are looking to fill remote positions.

HireVue also enables companies to streamline their recruitment processes and save time and money on travel expenses associated with in-person interviews. With HireVue, companies can quickly and easily screen candidates and identify the most promising ones for further consideration.

HireVue claims to allow for a more objective evaluation of candidates by reducing the impact of unconscious biases that may influence hiring decisions.

What are types of HireVue Interviews?

There are 3 main types of HireVue interviews: on-demand, live and gamification

On-demand interviews are pre-recorded interviews that candidates complete on their own time. Candidates are typically given a set of questions and a deadline by which they must complete the interview. Once the interview is submitted, it is analyzed by the HireVue platform and evaluated by the recruiter or hiring manager.

Live interviews, on the other hand, are conducted in real-time and allow for more direct interaction between the candidate and the interviewer. Live interviews are typically scheduled in advance and require candidates to log in to the HireVue platform at a specific time. During the interview, the interviewer asks questions and the candidate responds in real-time.

Gamification, is a set of games that you play through the platform that assess your various competencies.

HireVue has over 20 games in their portfolio, each designed to measure a different aspect of job fit across three competency domains:

  • Ability to work with information
  • Ability to work with people
  • Personality and work style
